Laura Solomon initiated her interests in pottery in Switzerland during the early 1970's where she attended her first class at the Migros School in Geneva.  During her thirteen years in Switzerland, Laura maintained her studio in the village of Givrins, Canton of Vaud where she gained recognition for her beautiful,  rustic dinnerware and 4 - 5 piece tea sets.

Back in America, living in Phoenix, Arizona,   Carlsbad, California and eventually, Martha's Vineyard, she continued her pottery ventures which included classes for young children.

Retiring to the hamlet of Brookline, Vermont, Laura takes pride in the production of hand thrown and  hand painted stoneware creations. Included among the pottery products are dishes, cups, tea pots, vases, bowls and a wide range of decorative and functional items. The unique designs in red, black or blue,  are based upon early "bauernmalerei" or European folk art.  Other designs are inspired by the traditional Vermont environment.

Living on an old farm close to the West River Valley, a new opportunity arose, triggered by the travels of Laura's youngest daughter in South America. On a concert tour through Peru, Tanya Solomon (violist) encountered the magnificent Alpacas of the Andes, transferring her enthusiasm for these amazing creatures back to Brookline, Vermont.  The result: a small herd of the "softest animals on earth" found a new home in the Valley just west of the Windmill Ridge hills.

Laura quickly recognized the beauty, uniqueness and incredible texture of alpaca fleece, launching her spinning and knitting project under the auspices of the Windmill Hill Alpaca Farm and Artisanry.  Her alpaca hats, mittens, head bands and neck warmers can be found all over the world, worn by discerning individuals enthralled by the warmth, fineness and durability of one of the world's softest fibers.
